MCOC Competitions Rules and Guidelines for Snow Motion Show
1. LOGS Carver may supply own log or one can be purchased for $45 for master piece, maximum size 6’ by 24” or combination of two logs not to exceed six linear feet (not going to scale logs and do board feet per log) any species you desire. Supplied log will be from 20-24” diameter and 6 foot in length. White pine cut within last 12 months. Selection on supplied log will be a lottery. Logs will be numbered and purchasers will draw number for there log. Competitors purchasing logs may trade or exchange after drawing is done.
2. TOOLS There will be no limitation to tools. Anything goes. You can Paint, Stain, burn, grind, sand, glue, screw, as long as your work on master piece is done during competition hours.
3. JUDGING Judging will be done by 5 employees of Nelson Speed Shop. With no experience on there part. So it will be a customer appreciation so to speak. We will try to keep judges out of carving area till the end of competition. There will be only one judging criteria. The judges will be asked to place the carvings from the 1st to 10th place in there opinion of which carving is the nicest.
4. PRIZE MONEY We will pay top six places 1st - $1000, 2nd - $900, 3rd - $800, 4th - $700, 5th - 600, 6th - $500. In the event of a tie those two places will split the money for those two places added together and divided by two. If for some reason you place and would like to keep your carving you can bow out and next carver in line will win. Example you take 3rd place and have been offered $1200 for your master piece, rather than take the $800 prize money you take the $1200 cash offer from the audience. But you must let me know that you have an offer prior to awards are announced. Once prizes are announced pieces become the property of Nelson Speed Shop.
5. CARVINGS Carvings that place and are awarded money will become the property of Nelson Speed Shop. Carvings that do not win money will remain the property of the carver who carved the piece to do with as they wish.
6. REGISTRATION FEE There will be a $50 entry fee which should be sent ASAP. Entering competition is possible up to start time of competition.
7. CARVING TIMES Competition will begin at 12 noon on August 27th and continue till 5 pm. On Saturday the 28th of August competition will resume at 9 am and finish at 2 pm. There will be no quick carve. No carving of master piece at any other time.
8. SET UP AND SPECIAL ORDERS You will be allowed to come in as early as Thursday to set up. Show starts Friday morning at 8 am. You will be allowed to carve other items before, after or during competition hours to fill orders or to make inventory. If cutting other than master piece is done, debris from other carving will be removed immediately after custom work is done so as not to have scraps available to
add to master piece.
9. SAFETY Chaps, eye protection and ear protection will be required at all times while running saws. One foot will remain on the ground at all times. No drop starting. Netting fro the front of your carving area will be required and supplied by carver. Only one warning will be given for each safety item.
10. CLEAN UP Carver will be required to rake debris into a pile for easy clean up.
